About Us

Our Story

STAND BY ME, LLC was born from lived experience, fierce advocacy, and a deep belief that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and included.

Kate and her husband, Bruce, became dedicated advocates while navigating the school system with their daughter, Sarah. Along the way, they encountered barriers that required persistence, collaboration, and a willingness to challenge the status quo. Together, they worked to ensure Sarah had access to the support, inclusion, and opportunities she deserved.

Their advocacy led to meaningful changes - impacting not only Sarah’s experience, but helping create more inclusive pathways for other students and families in their community.

Persistent advocacy has the power to create real, lasting change.

We use the term differently abled intentionally. Individuals are not defined by deficits, but by their abilities, contributions, and unique ways of experiencing the world. People who are differently abled bring valuable perspectives that enrich our communities and deserve to be meaningfully included. As Kate shares, “It’s about creating opportunities and helping to build someone’s life.”

What began as two parents advocating for their daughter has grown into a trusted agency with a clear mission - to stand alongside individuals and families, fostering independence, connection, and a true sense of belonging.

As Sarah approached adulthood, a new gap became clear. When individuals transition out of youth and school-based services - particularly between the ages of 18-21 and beyond - many experience a sudden loss of structure, connection, and opportunity. Yet this stage of life is just as critical.

We believe that a meaningful life is built through community, purpose, and connection. That includes opportunities to build relationships, participate in community life, and engage in meaningful work - on each person’s own terms and aligned with their goals.
